This is a before and after of a color consult I did with a customer via the internet. I had worked with the client on her interior several years ago while I was in Oregon. She contacted me for the exterior this past summer. She liked the yellow but needed something with a richer golden tone. If you've lived in the very rainy part of Oregon you would understand the challenge of keeping a light siding looking bright and clean. I used Sherwin Williams #6380 "Humble Gold" for the body of the house. The trim is SW #2831 "Classical gold"
Notice the change in the facia and gutters from white to dark brown......I usually do this to give the roof a more complete and cottage like feel. It also camouflages dirt from gutters and the uneven dark line many houses have between the shingles and the gutter. Here I gave the customer two choices of browns since I wasn't on site to compare the color samples in the sunlight.
the front door is SW # 6221 "Moody Blue"
All in all the house ends up looking a bit more substantial while highlighting the brick entry. The darker trim gave this house a much stronger feel and balances the brick, accent door and the darker eaves.
Last but not least......my recommendation for exterior paint is to use Sherwin Williams Duration. It is truly worth the extra money. two coats are definitely plenty and you may get by with one. It will last 15 plus years (don't quote me.....check the label) but that is my experience. When you are doing that much work , why would anyone buy cheap paint?!
