| I was asked to paint one of 25 Basque camp stove replicas. All of the artists have completed them and they are now on display around our little town of Buffalo, Wyoming. the auction will be held on Friday the 21st of July in Crazy Woman Square.   |  I drew from my experience as a decorative painter when I began my work on this sheepherders camp stove. Before putting brush to this unusual canvas I studied the basque history and culture and was taken with the bold colors and very distinctive designs. I began the painting from the bottom up, starting with some vibrant color and designs that are my own signature style. The top burners are embellished with patterns I found in modern day pottery from the Basque country. I wanted to show a bit of the sheepherders view hidden behind the Basque flag. behind the smaller door is an angel that guards the sheep. I would call this stove “A place to warm your heart” |

The National Basque festival is going to be held here in Buffalo, Wyoming . July 21st - 24th. I wasn't here for the last one, several years ago.....I hear they are grand!! Lots and lots of dancing, music, food. A huge party. I'm looking forward to experiencing a taste of the Basque culture. In preparation I've asked the artists in the gallery to do some creating in honor of Basque design.  |
