Floor Cloths
A floor cloth is a painted canvas rug. These rugs are simple to clean (damp mop) and hypo-allergenic, making them ideal for under a dining room table. Cared for properly they will last a lifetime.
Floor cloths were first popular from the 1800's to the early 1900's. Primarily found in finer homes, custom made to cover and protect wood floors while adding design. The industrial revolution brought with it manufactured linoleum, overshadowing the floor cloth artist. In 1995, Laura was commissioned to create a contemporary floor cloth for a dining room in a commercial setting where a fiber carpet would not be practical. Since then she has grown to love designing and constructing floor cloths for different settings. This work has become her focus, combining function with beauty. She sees them as an extension of her interior decorative painting experience, functional art for the floor.
