A word from Patty:
I grew up in an Air Force family, settling in the Big Woods of Minnesota, where I met my husband. Our love of history bought us to Buffalo Wyoming over 40 years ago, where we raised our sons. I have always created art - mostly quilting and copper foiled stained glass, and discovered fiber art when I retired in 2013. Working with mentors from Montana and New Mexico, I have spent the past 7 years learning felting techniques in both visual and usable creations. YouTube, books, and festivals have been my primary sources for information.
We live in an extraordinary place, infused with wildlife and wildflowers and ever changing seasons. This is the inspiration for much of my work. Working with primarily wool, I blend the colored fibers to achieve the color and texture needed for a lake, or antlers, or the feathers on a bird. These blended fibers are felted together by friction and hot soapy water or with a special barbed needle. I also nuno felt scarves, which means working wool fibers into silk, creating unique designs.
As with a lot of art, I may begin a project with one idea in mind, only to have it take a turn and end up in a totally different direction! Especially when incorporating a bit of silk, bamboo or the odd bit of bison or wolf hair!!
