Laurie Lamere
A little about the artist
Laurie was born in Ohio and moved to Wyoming at the age of sixteen with her parents, finishing high school in the small western town of Pinedale. To soften the blow of such a traumatic move in her teenage years, her father promised her a horse, a promise that he kept shortly after the move. She has been enjoying horses and Wyoming ever since. After graduating from high school, she spent several years exploring Wyoming's backcountry as the wife of an outfitter, where she grew to love the beauty of Wyoming's landscapes and wildlife.
Raising two daughters and supporting her second husband's construction business consumed the next portion of her life.Their favorite summer pastime was horse packing into the mountains for week-long camping excursions. She loved riding the trails in the Bridger Wilderness, cooking over the campfire in the evenings, and gazing at the crisp, starlit Wyoming skies. She is still inspired to this day by these memories.
In 2013, her family moved to Jackson Hole, where she joined the Teton Plein Air Painters on their weekly painting excursions. She loved the outdoor painting "en plain air" would be her preference whenever possible. Painting from life helped to improve her skills immensely, as well as being able to paint the beautiful Teton Range and its surrounding landscapes on a regular basis.
Now an empty nester and living in Ten Sleep, she is focusing full time on her passion for painting the beauty of Wyoming. She tries to spend as much time as possible painting outdoors. However, Wyoming winters can be harsh, so studio time is a necessity. This is when she experiments with resin and her pressed wildflowers, as well as painting a few wildlife and still life paintings.
Laurie is an associate member of Oil Painter of America and Women Artists of the West, a member of the Art Association of Jackson Hole, Sublette County Mixed Media, Sagebrush Artisans, and a member and past president of the Wyoming Artists' Association.
