The National Basque festival is going to be held here in Buffalo, Wyoming . July 21st - 24th. I wasn't here for the last one, several years ago.....I hear they are grand!! Lots and lots of dancing, music, food. A huge party. I'm looking forward to experiencing a taste of the Basque culture. In preparation I've asked the artists in the gallery to do some creating in honor of Basque design.
We have buttons made from dear antler and also moose for the larger buttons. Also we have hand made ceramic buttons.
We are open for 2017! For all who don't know already.....In Color is open 7 days a week and online also, thanks to all the work of participating local artists and fine crafters. We hope you can make it in to the gallery before the 13th of February. We are giving away a gift basket that includes a 50$ gift card. Drawing is on the 13th. Come and put your name in and check out new artwork and and gift ideas for Valentines Day.....all made locally
It took us over a week of hard labor.....peeling, scraping, adhesive remover and then more scraping and scrubbing.....but all done now except a small 4X4 spot by the back stairs. Chris and I have been working hard to give the gallery some TLC, a little spit and polish. Looking forward to opening this coming Wednesday, February 1st.
This is a before and after of a color consult I did with a customer via the internet. I had worked with the client on her interior several years ago while I was in Oregon. She contacted me for the exterior this past summer. She liked the yellow but needed something with a richer golden tone. If you've lived in the very rainy part of Oregon you would understand the challenge of keeping a light siding looking bright and clean. I used Sherwin Williams #6380 "Humble Gold" for the body of the house. The trim is SW #2831 "Classical gold"
Notice the change in the facia and gutters from white to dark brown......I usually do this to give the roof a more complete and cottage like feel. It also camouflages dirt from gutters and the uneven dark line many houses have between the shingles and the gutter. Here I gave the customer two choices of browns since I wasn't on site to compare the color samples in the sunlight. the front door is SW # 6221 "Moody Blue" All in all the house ends up looking a bit more substantial while highlighting the brick entry. The darker trim gave this house a much stronger feel and balances the brick, accent door and the darker eaves. Last but not least......my recommendation for exterior paint is to use Sherwin Williams Duration. It is truly worth the extra money. two coats are definitely plenty and you may get by with one. It will last 15 plus years (don't quote me.....check the label) but that is my experience. When you are doing that much work , why would anyone buy cheap paint?!
Antler bowls by Pat Schweikert, prints by Karen Barton and hundreds of gifts in between. We tried to wrap as fast as possible! Speed in this area is not one of my assets. With a little time, we got the job done. So....if you don't mind coming back to pick up your gift, we will do our best to wrap it up nicely.
I finished this little lime tray several weeks ago. Don't really know what inspired me to paint limes at this time of year or in this fashion....but,here it is now. Done!!
This old 50's era mirror was painted with a barbed wire design. I left the original maple frame and painted the barbed wire and edged it in deep turquoise. The mirror was rather beaten up and the mirror itself definitely shows it's age. Very heavy mirror and definitely worth taking home. 145.00. 20 in x 26 in
Give a gift card that allows the receiver to choose something unique, made locally. A gift that is truly special.
I had to bring my noodle dough to the gallery and make noodles here. I was having company for dinner at 6:30.....kind of underestimated the time I need to get noodles made for homemade chicken noodle soup. Soooo, I got the soup in the crock pot, made some quick egg noodle dough: 3 farm eggs, lightly beaten with 2 Tablespoons of milk or cream, 1 teaspoon salt, add enough flour to make a soft dough. Roll out in LOTS of flour.
I took pictures 'cause I forgot my rolling pin and had to improvise with a cardboard roll from wrapping paper. A bit flimsy but it worked! Necessity, the mother of invention. This is why I work here....no rules!
